Many vacationers can’t wait to pack their bags and head out to Siesta Key for the summer – one of the busiest times of year for good reason! It’s the chance to walk barefoot on white sand beaches, enjoy amazing local seafood, have a blast during the many events and festivals and just feel good.

This year in Siesta Key and Sarasota, celebrate art, local food, nature, patriotism, fishing competitions, classical music, and boating and so much more with this schedule of events lined up for just you.

Siesta Key Farmer’s Market – Weekly on Sundays

The Siesta Key Farmer’s Market is a weekly event that takes place on Sunday morning from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm in Siesta Village at 5104 Ocean Blvd near our Siesta Key vacation rentals.

This is an easy event to attend when you’re on the island and the perfect opportunity to experience the island’s art culture with paintings and crafts and unique offerings from local vendors such as produce, coffee, tea, apparel, jewelry, candles, and organic products, and plenty of delicious food.

Mote Marine World Oceans Day Family Festival – June 2nd

On June 2nd from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Mote Marine Aquarium officially celebrates World Oceans Day to highlight the value and inspirational power of the world’s oceans, the importance of sustaining them, and their connection to the human spirit.

The event is designed to be family-friendly and features live interactive and educational shows, live musical performances, face painting, and along with access to the fascinating live exhibits of the aquarium which includes manatees, sharks and over 100 other species of marine life.

The celebration is free with general paid admission to Mote Aquarium and is free for Mote members. Find the event at Mote Marine Aquarium – 1600 Ken Thompson Parkway, Sarasota, FL 34236.

Sarasota Music Festival – June 3rd through June 24th

The Sarasota Music Festival will be held from June 3rd, 2018 through June 24th, 2018 and showcases some of the nation’s most talented classical musicians in a variety of public performances for which tickets can be purchased separately. The concerts will be held at the Sarasota Orchestra and Sarasota Opera House and tickets can be purchased online.

Like other classical music festivals, the Sarasota Music Festival will also feature rising stars in the music industry along with more established talents. Around 500 students from top musical schools audition for the festival each year, but only around 50 are accepted.

Sarasota Powerboat Grand-Prix Festival

Sarasota Powerboat Grand-Prix Festival – June 23rd to July 4th

The Sarasota Powerboat Grand-Prix Festival is a popular summer boat race and event festival that will kick off on June 23rd through to July 4, 2018 – culminating with the fireworks show at Bayfront Park on the 4th of July.

The dates of the actual races will be June 30th and July 1st, however there are a variety of other events held on the days leading up to the races:

  • The festival kicks off with the Bob Rizi Memorial Golf Classic on Saturday June 23rd at 3101 Longmeadow, Sarasota, Florida starting at 7:00 a.m.
  • A Car Show will take place on June 24th at 3000 Ringling Blvd at 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Boat & Personal Watercraft “Fun Run” on June 24th at Marina Jack (2 Marina Plaza) at 11:00 a.m.
  • “Friendliest Catch” Fishing Tournament on June 27th at the Sarasota Outboard Club (1604 Ken Thompson Pkwy) starting at 9:00 a.m. to noon.
  • Grand Prix Comedy Night at McCurdy’s Comedy Theatre (1923 Ringling Blvd) at 7:00 p.m.
  • Kickoff Festival on June 28th at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall Grand Foyer (777 N Tamiami Trail) from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Meet & Greet/Autograph Event on June 29th at the Hyatt Regency Ballroom (1000 Boulevard of the Arts) from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Many other events which can be viewed online

Superstock, Production Class and Personal Watercraft Races will be held on Lido Beach (400 Benjamin Franklin Dr) from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday June 30th.

The Powerboat races will be held at Lido Beach from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday July 1st – both of these events are free and open to the public, but some of the other events may have an admission cost. Lido Beach will present the best viewing of the event.

The “Fan Fest” is also free and open to the public with music, a full bar, food, vendors, and tents to watch the live races on televisions. The Fan Fest is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. during both days of the races at the Van Wezel Parking Lot at 777 N Tamiami Trail.

Annual Sarasota Fireworks Show – July 4th

You won’t want to miss the annual 4th of July fireworks show in Sarasota. The show can be easily seen over the Sarasota Bay with free viewing points at Bayfront Park, Island Park and anywhere downtown. It usually starts around 9:00 p.m.

Annual Siesta Key Fireworks Show – July 4th

If you don’t want to head out to Bayfront Park, you can get an equally amazing fireworks show right on Siesta Key, with excellent viewing points along Crescent Beach. The show can bring around 20,000 to 30,000 people when the weather is nice, so our island is certainly the other place to be during the 4th of July!

Sarasota Slam-Fishing Tournament – July 31st through August 4th

From July 31, 2018, to August 4, 2018, the Sarasota Slam Fishing Tournament will be held at Marina Jack (2 Marina Plaza, Sarasota, FL). The competition includes billfish and fun fish divisions, inshore and offshore, and a Jr. Division for kids. Cash rewards are offered to the angler who snags the biggest fish in each species category.

The billfish/fun fish division will take place on Tuesday, July 31st 6:00 PM. Inshore and Offshore competitions will be on Friday, August 3rd at 5:00 PM. On Saturday, August 4th, 2018, the weigh-in silent auction will start at 1:00 p.m. and run to 5:00 p.m. with a 3:00 p.m. dockside BBQ and party. Awards are released directly after the weigh in, so don’t miss this exciting fishing tournament if you are in town!
