Things to Do in June

The start of June is the perfect time of year for Florida residents to escape to resorts near Siesta Key before the tourist season kicks into high gear. You’ll find temperatures are in the low 70s to high 80s at this time of year, so it’s a good time to visit if you don’t want to deal with the extreme summer heat.

June has several events taking place, including:

  • Craft & Vendor Market and Health Fair: The event will be held on June 20 at 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and it’s free for anyone that wants to attend. The market has great music, food and over 45 vendors. The event is held at 7120 Massachusetts Ave in New Port Richey, FL.

  • Cars and Caffeine: An elite car show with all makes and models open where classic, unique and exotic cars will be present. The event is free to attend, with snacks and coffee available. Join in on the fun on June 6 between 7:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. at 1749 Cattlemen Road in Sarasota.

  • Sarasota Music Festival: Enjoy the 2020 festival, with dates from May 31 to June 1. National and local talent will be present, with rising and established talents present throughout the festival. The event is held at the Sarasota Orchestra and Sarasota Opera House.

Things to Do in July

July is filled with 4th of July events for everyone to enjoy. Major events take place all throughout July, with a few must-attend events being:

  • Fireworks 4 Miller: An event to celebrate the 4th of July, Fireworks 4 Miller is held on July 3 at 7 p.m. at 891 N Cattlemen Road in Sarasota. The event is family-friendly and features a 4-mile race around the lake. 

  • Salon D’Art: A group talk that is perfect for art lovers. The talk is held on the second Friday of the month between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. You’ll be able to join in on the lively conversation and discuss one of the featured, famous artists. The event is held at 707 N Tamiami Trail in Sarasota.

  • Siesta Key Fireworks Show: Held on July 4, join the crowd of 20,000 to 30,000 people to watch fireworks along Crescent Beach. Watch the show from our Siesta Key beach hotels, with spectacular amenities and views.

  • Sarasota Fireworks Show: Also held on July 4th, you can watch the annual fireworks from anywhere downtown. Prime free viewing points are Island Park and Bayfront Park. The show starts at 9 p.m., but you will want to arrive early.

Things to Do in August

August is a busy month, with a lot of tourists going home around the end of August. This is the perfect time to visit, and you may even be able to stretch your stay a little longer to enjoy some of the exciting fall events this year.

One big event that you’ll want to consider this August is:

  • Siesta Sprint Triathlon: Running from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on August 2. The exciting event is great to watch and is located at 948 Beach Road in Siesta Keys. The event is a true test of endurance and courage.

A lot of the fun, annual events in August have yet to have their dates finalized. Anglers will not want to miss the Sarasota Slam Fishing Tournament, which normally takes place in the first two weeks of the year.

The tournament also includes a dockside part and BBQ that is perfect for anyone that is on their own and wants to meet a few locals along the way.

Siesta Key Farmer’s Market – Weekly on Sundays

The Siesta Key Farmer’s Market is a weekly event that takes place on Sunday morning from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm in Siesta Village at 5104 Ocean Blvd near our Siesta Key vacation rentals.

This is an easy event to attend when you’re on the island and the perfect opportunity to experience the island’s art culture with paintings and crafts and unique offerings from local vendors such as produce, coffee, tea, apparel, jewelry, candles, and organic products, and plenty of delicious food.

Mote Marine World Oceans Day Family Festival – June 8th

On June 8th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Mote Marine Aquarium officially celebrates World Oceans Day to highlight the value and inspirational power of the world’s oceans, the importance of sustaining them, and their connection to the human spirit.

The event is designed to be family-friendly and features live interactive and educational shows, live musical performances, face painting, and access to the fascinating live exhibits of the aquarium which includes manatees, sharks and over 100 other species of marine life.

The celebration is free with general paid admission to Mote Aquarium and is free for Mote members. Find the event at Mote Marine Aquarium – 1600 Ken Thompson Parkway, Sarasota, FL 34236.

Sarasota Music Festival – May 31st through June 21st

The Sarasota Music Festival will be held from May 31st, 2020 through June 21st, 2020, and showcases some of the nation’s most talented classical musicians in a variety of public performances for which tickets can be purchased separately. The concerts will be held at the Sarasota Orchestra and Sarasota Opera House and tickets can be purchased online.

Like other classical music festivals, the Sarasota Music Festival will also feature rising stars in the music industry along with more established talents. Around 500 students from top musical schools audition for the festival each year, but only around 50 are accepted.

Sarasota Powerboat Grand-Prix Festival – June 26rd to June 28th

The Sarasota Powerboat Grand-Prix Festival is a popular summer boat race and event festival that will kick off on June 26rd through to June 28 – culminating with the fireworks show at Bayfront Park on the 4th of July.

There are a variety of other events held on the days before and after leading up to the races and Independence Day celebrations.

Superstock, Production Class, and Personal Watercraft Races will be held on Lido Beach (400 Benjamin Franklin Dr) from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 30th.

The Powerboat races will be held at Lido Beach from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 1st – both of these events are free and open to the public, but some of the other events may have an admission cost. Lido Beach will present the best viewing of the event.

The “Fan Fest” is also free and open to the public with music, a full bar, food, vendors, and tents to watch the live races on televisions. The Fan Fest is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. during both days of the races at the Van Wezel Parking Lot at 777 N Tamiami Trail.

Sarasota Slam-Fishing Tournament – August 8th through August 10th

From July 8th, 2020, to August 10, 2020, the Sarasota Slam Fishing Tournament will be held at Marina Jack (2 Marina Plaza, Sarasota, FL). The competition includes billfish and fun fish divisions, inshore and offshore, and a Jr. Division for kids. Cash rewards are offered to the angler who snags the biggest fish in each species category.

The Inshore and Offshore competitions will be on Friday, August 9th, at 5:00 PM. On Saturday, August 10th, 2020, the weigh-in silent auction will start at 1:00 p.m. and run to 4:00 p.m. with a 3:00 p.m. dockside BBQ and party. Awards are released directly after the weigh-in, so don’t miss this exciting fishing tournament if you are in town!
